Meet Dr. Kristiansen

Sandra V. Kristiansen, M.D., is the founder and medical director of Vein Clinic of New England and believes in minimal-invasive treatments, which has been the focus of the clinic since 1997.

In 2000 Dr. Kristiansen became one of the pioneers in the use of Tumescent Anesthesia, the local anesthesia technique used in many minimal-invasive procedures today, such as EVLT™, VNUS Closure®, VenaCure, SmartLipo, VASER Lipo and Laser LipoSculpture. She was the first physician in New England to perform both EVLT™ and VNUS Closure® procedures in her practice and has since then trained surgeons in the area.

Dr Kristiansen’s vast degree of experience in minimal-invasive procedures, combined with her extensive ongoing training in the field of vein treatment and fat reduction techniques, has led her to the forefront among her peers.

Despite her current status and position, Dr Kristiansen is continuously keeping up with the fast moving areas of minimal-invasive procedures for medical and cosmetic purposes. Attending courses, conferences and one-on-one training with the most renowned physicians in the field, is keeping her on the cutting edge.

Dr. Kristiansen is a member of American College of Phlebology, American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery, Society of Vascular Technology, American Society of Liposuction Surgery, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine.

Before Vein Clinic of New England Dr. Kristiansen graduated medical school in 1978 from Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Mexico, in the top 5% of her class. Her post-graduate medical training was at Lincoln Medical Center, an affiliate of New York Medical College in New York and UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, a major teaching affiliate of University of Texas Medical School. Here she authored and co-authored numerous scientific articles, while doing clinical and research Immunology and Rheumatology. Dr. Kristiansen is dual board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.

After the boards, she worked in ER, managed care and wound care where she treated leg ulcers among other conditions. Leg ulcers are often related to varicose veins and from here she developed an interest for leg veins.

When not busy with work, Dr. Kristiansen enjoys gardening, traveling, sports and family.
